"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Good change of venue once in a whileWhile I prefer Baldy as a training hike, this is a nice change of pass every year or so.

Great warmup for San GHiked with my college buddy Josh on a warm, sunny and relatively unsmoggy day. After (barely) reaching the TH in a passenger car, we hiked Holy Jim to the top in 3 1/2 hours. Hardest part was definitely Upper Holy Jim between the road segments. Views on top were incredible, to the three Saints, downtown LA, and the ocean.
The hike down took us 2:45, plus a 20 minute side trip to the falls (well worth it, IMHO). My second CA COHP, and a great introduction to the mountains of the area!

Twin Peaks UltraRan the inaugural Twin Peaks 50K marathon. First up Modjeska then over to Santiago. Summit at 16 miles, turned around and ran back down.

from Trabuco Peak - CA cohp #9Twenty of us started hiking the North Main Divide Truck Trail (the gate was locked at the intersection of the Indian Truck Trail) down and up from the base of Trabuco Peak. I found the summit register in the two tin cans nested together. No vehicles along the entire route except for three service trucks on top.
My daughter, Tori and Aleeza Gonzalez hiked with me to the last big switchback where the top of the Upper Holy Jim Trail intersects the road. On the way down they hiked Upper Holy Jim Trail down while I jogged the road in case others from our larger group were still coming up. Trevor Neilsen had driven down to the closed gate and he gave me a ride up to Tabuco Peak where I was parked.
For those wanting a bite to eat in the area, don't miss Hell's Kitchen biker bar on the Ortega Highway. It was the first place we found to give 15 teenaged girls a place to buy a soda and use the restroom. From the discussions I overheard they won't forget it anytime soon :).

Our icon for dreamsBeen up to the summit more than a dozen times and 100 times that in my dreams. This mountain is a great place to train, have fun and reminds us of bigger peaks to come. Here is one story. (No money for hits. Writing is just a labor of love. I'm a News Director.)

Holy Jim to SummitMountain bike race on this day. Made the hike interesting to say the least. Nothing like diving in to the brush to avoid getting run over. The radio towers on the summit make for a less than natural climax. Probably won't return.

Hiking with the twin bro, 2/04I went to go visit my brother in Corona, CA, and, of course, one of the most important things in planning to come visit him is to look for a nice little mountain in the area to hike. There are some beautiful views on the hike up, it kinda is a bummer seeing all the satellite equipment up at the top, but I guess people have to have their cell phone access...

Helluva ClimbKiller hike from bottom to top and back. Especially in May. Ran out of water on the way up. Ran the entire way back

Ascended Holy Jim, Descended Joplin TrailA nice hike via Holy Jim and Joplin trails. Climbed Modjeska as well. Perfect weather, some snow above 5000 ft. The firebreak cleared during recent fires across Modjeska was a bit of an eye sore, as were all the towers on Santiago.
Here are my GPS tracks, elevation profile, Google Map and some photos.
Note: Had no issues driving my low clearance Honda Civic to the Holy Jim Trailhead. Took it slow and easy. The large puddles are intimidating but easy to bypass. Need to be careful to avoid large rocks.

Holy Jim!What a slog on a hot day. Enjoyed the wild fresh figs growing over the Falls. From the Great Divide on it got nice. The summit, however, was humming with microwave radiation and we didn't stay long. Signed the log up top. Good views all around.

Main DivideThe gate at the Silverado trailhead is open so I drove to the top of Maple Springs Road. The road is in good condition and an average compact car can make it. The upper gate is locked.

Holy Jim TrailGorgeous day with clear air, so everything was sharply visible. Slight breeze and cool air made for very comfortable hiking.

Holy JimWish there was a better way to get to this mediocre cohp. A 16mi RT seems too much for what you get in return.

Indian Truck TrailVery hot day from Elsinore side. Fun drive. Not much of a hike for me. Still sore from Baldy the day before.
