Oskar-Schuster Steig  Sucess!

Started from Monte Suera and reached the summit via the Oskar-Schuster Steig one and a half hour later. A great route in a beautiful landscape! The Normal Route is overcrowded (even on a Tuesday in September). Descended to Kompatsch. Day trip with public transport from Bolzano.

Via Oskar Schuster  Sucess!

A great high altitude Via Ferrata. Rather easy but the longish approach and descent make for a nice day's program. A but foggy and wet at the summit but this whole summer was weird weather-wise.
We did not use the traditional approach via the Demetz Hütte but rather walked up from Monte Sëura.

Route climbed: via ferrata Oskar-Schuster-Steig  Sucess!

Ascent with via ferrata. Really nice route, average demanding but in July there are many other climbers, some of they w/o ferrata experience. Descent by the normal way.

Lonesone summit  Sucess!

Believe it or not, I was alone on Plattkofel's summit. Started from Sella Pass at 7:30 and since clouds started to develop in the damp air before 8 already, II decided to speed to the summit. I reached it before 10 and spent the first 15 minutes alone up there. Then Shared the summit with another German hiker for another 15 minutes before he left it to me again. Descended after 45 min when it became obvious that the clouds wouldn't lift but rather develop into something dark and nasty.

Route Climbed: Oskar Schuster ferrata  Sucess!

Quite a lot of snow/ice on the lower part of the ferrata, ice axe was useful! Descended the same way back down - shorter, faster and more interesting than taking the normal way. Just when I got off the mountain, I was caught by huge thunderstorm and pouring rain, at the end I was totally soaked through. Great day though!

Oscar-Schuster ferrata  Sucess!

Beatifull views to Sassolungo. We went absolutely alone from Vicenza hut to Rif. Sasso Piatto.Because it wasn't so good weather.I liked this ferrata(as usual].Minimally exposed parts, but very good.the descent by F.-A. weg was a little boring for me.

Route Climbed: Oskar-Schuster-Steig ferrata Date Climbed: September 7th 2005  Sucess!

very busy area: the loneliest part of the day was the ascent from Sellajoch to Langkofelscharte pass because most people take the cablecar. Then descent among a crowd of hikers to Langkofel hut. Less, but still many people did the ascent to the ferrata where we managed to overtake a group of youth so we were alone until we met a group of german alpine club. Interesting route - cables are only there where you really need them. Weather was fine in the morning but cloudy at noon when we reached the summit. HUNDREDS of hikers (mostly italian teenagers) climbed the mountain on the normal route that we took for descent. And the hike along Koenig-August-Weg back to Sellajoch is also one of the busiest routes of the Dolomites...
