Active fires in the vicinity prevented us from doing the hike from Chimney Gap, so we drove up. Smokey views. First time in SC.

Pretty View
On a 3 week RV trip. Hit 4 state highpoints. Dogs in tow. We parked the RV down at a gas station, disconnected our tow vehicle and drove up to the summit. It was a beautiful day. There were 3 other people at the top. Two of them were just hanging out in lawn chairs. Haha.

This was our 18th Highpoint and the last Highpoint on our trip of six. We had a good week of hiking and driving through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. We made her just before sunset in a little bit of a rain. The new parking area has a nice overlook.

Hiked up the 2.5-mile trail from the Chimneytop Gap parking lot. Hard to believe this place is only a hundred miles from the Smokies; Clingman's Dome was covered in snow that same morning, but it felt like summer here. The cleared area at the summit was nothing short of beautiful, with a 360-degree view for miles around.

Nice views, but there was a lot of work being done on the summit area which kind of left a bad impression. The roads around the high point were really pleasant driving around dusk.

Didn't expect the summit to have been cleared of trees. I got up there right at dusk. Nice views and happy to be there before they built a tower

Unexpected Hike
I expected a drive up since there are no trails. But a mile and a half from the top there was a large tree fallen across the road trapping cars on both sides. So, I decided to walk the rest of the way. Surprisingly steep road. Good views at top but the area itself is not very pretty. 18th HP.

Took the parking lot route. But we wanted to get other high points that day anyway. Got some great undercast though.

Highpoint #24
Two days stuck in the area for a work project. Took the drive up to the parking lot and the grueling 100 yard walk to the top. Foggy and just a big area w/cleared trees - saw nothing. As noted before there are plans to enhance but right now there is a bench and a plaque.Would be a beautiful drive in the spring I am sure.

2nd HighPoint of the day
On my way back from Brasstown Bald in Georgia to home in Greeneville SC, I passed the road to this High Point. Though it was dark by the time I got there, it was only a couple hundred yards from the parking lot so I went and took a selfie. 3rd State High Point!

Mountaintop seems to have been recently cleared, with future plans for a lookout tower of some sort. There are now good views to be had in all directions. Nice monument plaque from the Highpointers club. I'll add a photo or two.
Took some 'virgin' climber's with me to the top of this hill. Can drive most of the way up and walk about 500 yards to the top which has a bench which has been donated by the highpointers (www.highpointers.org).

Grabbed this highpoint on the same day as Georgia, while on a temporary project assignment in the Southeast.
Not the best view in SC but it was a nice drive through a part of country I've never visited.

After a week at the beach, it was time for more high pointing on my way back home. Got here early in the morning, and did the short little walk to the top. I had been here several times before, but had to do it again to document it.
