From Chimney Creek Campground
Nice walk from the PCT on a remarkably beautiful day. A 20% chance of snowfall was forecasted but it was mostly sunny with occasional clouds.

Mellow Day
From the PCT. Cool. Spanish Needle was socked in with snow, but Sawtooth was dry and mellow.

No Water
From Chimney Creek campground. Except for a stream crossing at the start, there was no water - this was in mid-June after the heaviest snow year on record.
The topo map shows a possible shortcut via a dirt road just south of the PCT, but no such luck -it's a private road with a gate.
From PCT to saddle. From trail, to off trail, to steep off trail to Class 2. Reverse on the way out. Good day. The guy in camp afterwards who showed up on a motorcycle with a tent, cabana, rake, broom, and chain saw topped off the evening.

2nd of Day
2nd peak after bagging Lamont earlier in day. Walkup from saddle via PCT. Descent was much more fun via dry stream bed, nice little gully.

Hard to find Jenkins Route
This was my second attempt to find Jenkin's drainage for the up portion of his loop. This was a very warm climb in May.

With Spanish Needle
Nice loop from the PCT trailhead to the west. Up the standard route from the saddle then over to Spanish Needle for some good scrambling. Owens the next day.

PCT
Pretty sandy walk up the ridge from the PCT, but not too much bushwhacking. Windy and chilly for June.

Was somewhat of a rainy day making for a lush hike up the final slopes. Made a nice contrast with the desert views to the east.

Spring and fall outings
The first time was on the second day of a delightful 4-day sojourn in the Southern Sierra, my first visit to the area: Lamont Peak in the morning, then this one via its south/southwest ridge from the PCT in the afternoon. Followed the excellent recommendation in Jenkins' guidebook to descend a canyon to the west to return to the PCT more directly than where I left it... scenic and enjoyable.
The second time was in the fall of the same year, after climbing Spanish Needle earlier in the day with Bob. Again climbed the south "ridge", this time returning via the peak's steep, loose SE side to head back to Sand Canyon.
