I climbed the Schilthorn from Lauterbrunnen during a backpack through the Bernese Alps. My highest summit to date, and by far the most beautiful. My friend and I started early in clouds and fog. About 5-10 minutes after summitting, the clouds parted, giving stunning views all around. As a James Bond fan, I also enjoyed the Piz Gloria quite a bit. One of my favourite memories.

Schilt route
I first climbed the Schilthorn while visiting the Gimmelwald YH when I was 18 in 1980. The hike up via Schilt and down was a blast. In 1984 I toured Switzerland by mountain bike and cycled to Gimmelwald again. This time, after the summit I followed the ridgeline towards the Hundshorn and descended into the Selfinen valley due south and passed through some lovely farmsteads. Passed through Brunli on my way back to Gimmelwald. Fantastic outing, stunning views.

007 - Shaken, Not Stirred
I hiked up from Birg. The route is hardly a scramble but only a rough trail in some places. I did not need to use my hands. The views from this peak are very impressive. We had a sea of clouds.

Surprises
Was hiking in the valley after seeing this amazing waterfall type thing blasting through this cavern only to find there was suddenly this mountain you could get a ride up. The others in my party were less keen on hiking so that's what we took that and had some great views from the top. This is the only mountain in Switzerland I went to that I could track down the name of. Back in my youth I suppose I didn't care quite so much about them.

Loved this place
Hiked with the wife from Murren... enjoyed the James Bond experience on top. She's a good sport, but convinced me to take the gondola back down - lucky, given the tremendous thunderstorms that followed shortly later.
Up in 3h15 from Gimmelwald (via Murren) then ran back down in 1h30 - got some funny looks but had a train to catch. The top was a bit strange after seeing no one the whole walk.

Thunder & Lightning
Hmmm. Lots of dangerous weather that day. Only went part-way and took the gondola most of the way for fear of dying from lightening strike on this dirt track so early in our vacation. We plan on returning when there is snow.
