Hiked up with Shelby on a day trip to Yosemite. First time in Yosemite and only had a day to see the whole park, impossible, yes. This was a great place to see a large portion of it though. Amazed, and dissapointed with the crowds even on a Wednesday that started with a snowy morning!?! On a crowded day actually had the dome to ourselves for our stay.
Route Climbed: SouthEast slope Date Climbed: August 31,2003
Unbelievable view. Nowhere else in the park can you see El Cap, Half Dome, Clouds Rest and the High Sierra Peaks of Yosemite better than here. We could even see out ultimate destination in the park too! Mt. Lyell.
Route Climbed: Tourist Trail Date Climbed: June 1997
2nd time up here, continued on to Taft Point, and down to the Wawona Tunnel. The hike from Taft Point on was real nice, very few tourists, about 13 miles total.
Route Climbed: Sentinel Dome Trail Date Climbed: August 22nd,2002
This has to be one of the best short hikes in Yosemite! The views are great and the trail is only 2.2 miles roundtrip. Everyone who visits this great park should take the time to hike this trail. We loved it! And don't miss Taft Point also(at the same trailhead), great views from there as well. Check out our photos and report on our website:
Route Climbed: There's a choice? Date Climbed: August 1995
We spent the night on the summit, though I can't vouch for the legality of it. We bivied, no tents, food, or camping gear, just a couple bags on the ground, no 'improving'. If you want to try it I suggest similiar tactics so Ranger Bob doesn't start patrolling and give you the boot. We also came in late at night and left before the first tourists arrived with their monster cameras. Sitting in the full moon, with the waterfalls roaring in the distance makes this 'summit' worthwhile.
Route Climbed: Signed Sentinel Dome Trail Date Climbed: 5/19/2001 & 5/20/2001
This is a easy hike via a short trail that leads to the base of the dome and a short scramble takes you to the top. The views on top are outstanding, you have 360 degree views of everything to behold.
On both occassions, there weren't much crowds as the area has a lot of hikes and although this is an easy one, you may have to share the top with only a few other groups during the weekend.
