Shandur Polo, Pakistan

The Shandur Pass, a grassy plateau perched at 3600m in the very heart of Hindukush range, is home to the highest polo grounds on earth. More than 100 mile from Chitral Town and 140 miles from Gilgit town, it is the dramatic setting for a remote but popular polo tournamnet. Every year in the month of July teams from all Northern areas battle it our for an entire week in the fiercely ompetitive manner decreed by centuries-old tribal traditions and in hoes of winning the much-coveted trophy.
