Route Climbed: unnamed trail out of Salt Rock Gap. Date Climbed: 09-30-2004
This was a tough climb. I was trying to get to the top of Cold Mountain (the one in Panthertown Valley, not the famous one of the novel/movie). I had been turned back by downed trees and massive flood debris in my attempt to take the trail up Little Green Creek. So I took the only other route, along the Devil's Elbow, across the top of Shelton Pisgah, then the saddle to the ridgecrest of Cold Mountain. Unfortunately, Hurricanes Ivan and Frances had felled so many trees and left so much storm trash on the trail that I was unable to summit Cold Mountain. But I did succeed in reaching the top of Shelton Pisgah before being forced to head back to camp.
