I don’t remember exactly the date, but it was in September 2006 that I climbed the Silberpfennig from the Gasthof Ammererhof, following a well marked and visible trail. One comes past a lot of black slag heaps, a remainder of the silver excavation in historical times that gave the mountain its name.

from Kolm Saigurn
Silberpfennig was the last summit of a 3-week hiking trip from hut to hut through the eastern Hohe Tauern range. I started in Kolm Saigurn to Niedersachsenhaus hut and followed Senater-Beindorff-Weg trail to Bockhartscharte. Descent was to Nassfeld valley where I slept in Viehausalm pasture because Bockhartsee hut was just erected and not open then.
