snowshoe with the hoar  Sucess!

Tons of snow and examples of hoar frost under the surface up top which could create some potential avalanches. Great snowshoeing around the lake though. A couple of brave camp robbers (gray jays?) seemed to be having a great time too.

Snow Camping  Sucess!

I went show shoeing while my friend skinned up for fun. Spent the night at skyline lake under clear skies. Got down to 8F at night but was beautiful with all the fresh snow. Great views of surrounding peaks from the ridge.

Snowshoed to the top on accident  Sucess!

Headed up to Skyline lake to find it completely under snow. Continued up ridge to get some views. Ended up at the summit. Great views up there!

Yaktraxs  Sucess!

Late evening jog with yaktraxs made this a steep but quick climb up and down before it got too dark. Nice views of the night ski lights at Stevens Pass.

Well that was fun  Sucess!

The final 50 feet required two ice tools and crampons, up a vertical face. Snow was a little weak, I pretty much destroyed that route for at least the next few weeks, until it filled back in. Good times.

Cold Day

I took my buddy out for his first snowshoe trip. We made it to just below the highpoint on Skyline Ridge. The snow was steep and not consolidated on the final scramble. My buddy also didn't have an ice axe, so we turned around. Beautiful area amd it was a very cold day. It was a -8 degrees with the wind. I will be back to check out Sky and Tye. Great winter spot!!!

Sky & Skyline  Sucess!

The skies were clear and sunny over Skyline Ridge. There was just enough snow to make the scramble a bit more challenging but exciting. Also tagged Sky Mountain along the same ridge.

Skyline and Sky  Sucess!

Bryan, Skylar and I did Skyline Ridge and Sky Mountain. The fresh snow made the talus and scramble on Skyline more difficult. Returning from Sky Mountain I fell on some slushy snow covering mossy rocks and landed badly on my arm. I felt and heard things happen inside my shoulder. After it happened I quickly lost the use of my left arm. Time will tell how bad the injury is.

Too easy...  Sucess!

... to waste on a nice Summer-like day. Would be a decent destination for Autumn months, with great views of nearby peaks. Due to the modest elevations and short hiking distances involved, EastKing, Zephyr, and I considered an ambitious (and rarely attempted) full traverse of the horseshoe-shaped ridgeline containing Skyline Ridge and nearby (and higher) Sky Mountain, rather than waste an entire trip on this one peak. We made it to Point 5447, then Skyline Ridge highpoint, then Sky Mountain. I had other plans in the late afternoon, stopping our trip short, but a return trip is likely to happen in the future so we can complete our ridge traverse.

Conbined with neighboring Sky Mountain  Sucess!

This Ridge was a grest boulder scramble and a lot of fun. Great views along this ridge and neighboring (and slightly taller) Sky Mountain. Pt. 5447 to the east also had great views. Hard to believe how few people know about this place.

One last time...  Sucess!

With climbing partner R, who's working on his comfort level with scrambling, bouldering, and exposure. Probably won't be back this year, unless we get a huge dump of snow.

(Yes, I'm a sucker for climbs in this region. Obviously!)

In a blizzard  Sucess!

Climbed with my brother. 10 degrees at Stevens Pass over 1,000 feet below, sustained winds of 20+mph with gusts over 30mph, snowing and blowing so hard that your tracks were covered in a matter of seconds. Couldn't have had a better time!
