Route Climbed: Nounou Mtn. Trail Date Climbed: December 23, 2006
Climbed with my brother and dad on our christmas vacation to Kauai. Fun climb with good views, a nice change of vegetation from the Washington forests I'm used too.

East Side Trail
Ran up the trail to the picnic table, then climbed up the (somewhat) exposed rock to the top. The part past the picnic area is described in guidebooks as scary and treacherous, so a few folks just stopped there. Too bad. The rocks aren't THAT difficult, and the view is magnificent from up there! Good views of King Kong, too.

Nounou Mountain Trail
Nice easy short hike (1:30h) with great views after kayaking on the Wailua river. Lots of ripe strawberry guavas. Yum!
Stopped in Kauai on the way back from Singapore and Thailand to visit an old friend I grew up with in Portland and who now happens to live in the shadow of this peak. Needed to go climb something so ran over there and gave it a shot. Finally found a trail and was pleasantly surprised... Good views of the coastal towns. Nice little peak.

Guess I forgot to sign my own page summit log earlier....
Went there with my wife for an extended Thanksgiving weekend. Not being hard core enough to try Waiale'ale, settled on this very short hike but with a decent summit. Interesting vegetation along the way. Some amazing views - King Kong Mtn. on one side and Haupu'u on the other. Those looked like more substantial objectives. Not sure about access (one or both might be on private land.....real shame if they are) and also how to climb those things? From afar, they look like at least 4th class on steep moss and mud. I can picture using snow pickets driven into that stuff with a hammer for pro :)
