make it better for getting over the pass?
How long have the chains been here in
these mountains? Since World War I???

yes,you are right!these chains were put about the beginning of XX century to make easier this beautiful trail which goes across sharp ridge of Polish Tatra!!:)
But soon it will be real via ferrata with metal ropes,because of many deadly accidents.
