Snow on the A.T.

Snow on the A.T.

Even in early June, the deep shade of evergreens means that some snow lingers on the trail. This was the very first patch I saw; higher on the mountain the snow got deeper, but not by much. Note the white A.T. blaze at left. According to SP member Sheazula, this two-mile segment of the A.T. was built in 1937 by the C.C.C. and was the last link needed to connect the new terminus at Mt Katahdin with the rest of the A.T. (originally planned to end at Mt. Washington). June 2, 2007
