I camped in a nice meadow about half a mile below the gate and hiked from there. On my ascent I took the North Baldy trail No. 8 which was faint but it's obvious where you need to go. On my descent I took the road to get a better view at the observatory. This made for a nice little loop hike.

Road walk
A stab wound to the bottom of my left foot I got on Whitewater Baldy meant a road hike was preferable to a trail hike so up the road I went. Four hours and forty minutes up and three hours down. Sadly, my IBS struck while I was on a stretch of road with no cover so a jogger got to see me with my shorts down but judging from how hard core her pace was, she's seen this sort of thing before. I'm pretty sure she and I were the only ones who actually hiked the entire mountain from base to summit that day.

lovely sunset
Had been on nearby slopes underneath Timber Peak earlier in the year for work and decided I really had to go to the top of the range at some point. Stopped off on the way to Albuquerque and got to the top just in time to watch the sunset.

I miss blue skies
Would be totally lost for mountainy dates if it weren´t for Baarb. All hikes in the Maggies were a lot of fun. Really liked this one, especially the view!

Nice day
Hiked from N Baldy TH. Clear, warm day with no snow on the ground. Also hiked Timber Peak while I was there.

South Baldy via Water Canyon Trail #11
Climbed South Baldy via Trail #11 starting from 7,600 ft. 7.6 mi round trip. Deep snow above 8,800 ft all the way to the summit (snowshoes came handy). It was snowing most of the time, but cleared up just to get some views from summit ridge.
We drove to a point and walked the rest in the snow, and was fairly deep and extremely windy up top. Dog not happy, but managed to get in some views before a big storm rolled in.

Climbed up and back via the Copper Canyon trail. Kinda monotonous on the approach but stellar views from the ridge crest and the summit. Plenty of mines and geocaches around to keep things extra interesting!

Via Copper Canyon / FS10
Climbed up to South Baldy via Copper Canyon, and shuttled down the road. The hike seemed long through the canyon, but once on the ridge the hike was extremely pleasant. The views are expansive and spectacular. Admittedly, it did seem a bit of a let down to crest the last ridge and see a road and the observatory. On the bright side...it was nice to take a car back down.

North Baldy Trail
Took the North Baldy Trail shortly after sunrise, cut the NE ridge to the summit. Nice easy hike, less than a half mile with 470 feet net elevation gain. Nice views, less the industrial clutter on the summit.

A late night drive
I was in NM for work and decided to take a late night drive to the top of South Baldy. The stars were spectacular and so was the wind. My visit was short, but enjoyable.

Spent Thanksgiving with my folks in Magdalena, and drove up the Mags on Sunday (though I had been up several years ago). Beautiful clear day with a very cold wind!

N RidgeGreat views from the summit, as it's NM's 6th most prominent peak. You can see the VLA, which is very cool.
