Dix Range Traverse
About 20 miles of horrible snow conditions, brutal mountain ascents and descents, and unmarked, untamed wilderness. You know you're on an epic when you leave camp at 7:30 am and don't return until 11:00 pm. With that said, adding five more 46ers, getting awesome weather, and experiencing killer views made it all worth it!
# 2 of 4 for the day. Hiked up Macomb Mt, then South Dix, East Dix, Hough Peak, saved Dix Mt for another day. A ledge off to the side had some nice views as did the ascent up the rocky path. "S Dix" is etched into a very old, dead tree right on the trail and has a yellow trail marked about 15 ft up. Went next to East Dix, then back here and over to Hough Peak. Super awesome day for this hike, weather was beautiful!

Second peak of the 4 peak day. It was certainly beautiful out!
Had to climb it again after summiting the recently renamed Grace Pk....then it was on to Macomb.

Four in a day
Macomb. East Dis, and Hough along with this one. Thanks goes to Dan and Jason for getting me there.
Summited South Dix 4060' during a 2 night backpacking trip in the Dix Range. We followed one of the many herd paths from the summit of Macomb Mountain down to the col between the two mountains. We then ascended up a large rocky ledge and followed the ridge to the summit. The summit itself did not have views, but a small rocky section provided a nice view. We continued on towards East Dix Mountain afterwards.

In June '78 I knocked-off 5 peaks with my Scout Troop and a great leader that hooked me on wilderness adventures (Dix, East Dix, South Dix, Hough and McComb)

Macomb ->South Dix
Winter camped at the base of Macomb. Went up the Macomb slide over to South Dix. Came down Lillian Brook on broken trail, nicely packed, which was in terrific shape. Used snow shoes the whole time, no crampons. never needed ice axe, but it I could have while going up the Macomb slide.

Dix Range Traverse
Did this as part of a one-day Dix Range Traverse. Came up the Macomb slide and then down the herd path to South Dix. Beautiful sunny day with a few clouds here and there. Personally, I think better views are to be had on any of the other 4 in the Dix Range.

Over Pough from Lillian Brook
Lots of snow!!! It was warm with wet snow and the trail was obscured. We went through a bunch of spruce traps to make the summit. Could not see a thing. Headed out to East Dix and then returned home via Lillian Brook route as nothing over to Macomb had been broken out and the day was quickly passing.

It was clouding over as we crossed So. Dix the second time (first after E. Dix, then after Macomb).

South Dix
Climbed with Macomb, East Dix and Hough via the Dix Trail from the Elk Lake Lodge. A steep descent over from Macomb. Just below the summit a rocky and exposed boulder field gives way to excellent views of the surrounding peaks of the Dix Range.
