2023 Update  Sucess!

Just a quick update for anyone climbing a decade after the original post. The Medicine Lake trailhead and South Mountain Trail to the pass are now by far the easiest way to climb this peak. At the pass, you turn right (west) and complete the final 1,000 vertical feet or so off trail. Bushwhacking is minimal, as you break out of the trees fairly quickly and can then just make your own switchbacks up the high (and steep) alpine meadows.

South  Sucess!

Started at the 4x4 road that branches off of the main La Sal Pass road at 38.40334 109.21326. When the road ended we bushwhacked to where #029 bottoms out and then took #029 to the pass between South Mt and P11142. Did both South Mt and P11142. The SE ridge of South Mt was mostly open and grassy and easy going.
