Nice Ridge Hike
Don't take the obvious trail at the trailhead. Head straight up the slope and angle a little right. The way trail begins after about 100 yards. The way trail comes and goes but the route is easy. Just follow the ridge.

Fun little day trip
Made the drive up to bag this little peak while I was living in Corning for a few months. Enjoyable jaunt to the top, with nice views of the central valley. The Pacific was faintly visible to the west.

It's a long drive from I-5, but a nice hike with great views. I recklessly drove all the way to the Ides Cove TH on a donut spare tire, then all the way back to Orange County afterwards. Climbed Chanchelulla Peak beforehand in the morning.

South Yolla Bolly
East Ridge. Did Black Butte and Anthony Peak prior and Bully Choop after words.
Left at 5pm up East Ridge, beautiful light and easy hike to the summit. Andrew placed a new register.
Last hike of a long day driving over from the coast and doing the three Lassics on the way.

East Ridge
Followed Dennis Poulin's excellent SummitPost.org road directions from Paskenta on M2/M22/25N19 to the Ides Cove Trailhead. My mileages varied a little from Dennis's so I include them here:
0.0 Paskenta: Turn onto M2.
17.8 Pavement ends.
24.2 Turn Right onto M22 (Cold Springs Station is a few feet beyond this junction on M22).
33.3 Turn Left onto 25N19 towards "IDES COVE".
34.9 Pass the horse packer trailhead on the left. Bear right at a junction just beyond this.
35.6 Ides Cove Trailhead.
Walked the trail a few feet to a trail junction, then climbed up between the trails to the East Ridge. Followed the East Ridge to the summit.

Long outing
Since it was such a long-ass drive to get there, I decided to get my money's worth. Spent 10hr+ traversing from South Yolla Bolly to Hammerhorn, more than 26mi round trip. Worth every mile. Great views from the ridge and wonderfully remote, underutilized trails. Trip Report.
The drive was annoying. Some fun scrambling can be had on the outcrops. Great views.

On the drive back
Directly up the east ridge from the parking area, a long drive from a side trip on the way back to the Bay Area after a few days climbing peaks further north. Drove and hike Bully Choop in the morning, then Linn. Nice views across the Central Valley.

Top 100 lower-48 prominences
This was the first peak in our September California trip that included North Palisade. It is one of the 100 most prominent peaks in the 48 states, hence its interest for me.

long drive for a fun hike
Juan, Lab Dylan, Kelpie Marlie, and I did this to finish off a 4 day camping trip that included Mount Eddy, Goosenest, and Hat Creek/Thousand Lakes Wilderness. After the scenic 1.5 hour drive in from I-5 at Corning, the hike could have been done in an hour if we didn't stop to enjoy all the great views and the patches of snow for the dogs. We got back to Luis and the minvan after two hours and hauled a** back to civilization to pick up my wife at the San Jose airport on our way back to Gilroy. Luckily her flight was almost as late as we were. If possible, I suggest making the drive worth your time by camping near the trailhead or backpacking into the Wilderness. I did not see anybody anywhere within several miles of the trailhead, but I saw a handul of cars coming in on the way back out. It was probably people coming in for the 4th of July week as it was Friday evening. I was dissapointed to find an old Pepsi can part way up the peak, as well as a Jack in the Box Bag full of old french fries and trash near the trailhead.
Did this on the first day of a solo 4-day trip in the Yolla Bolly Wilderness. Other fun easy peaks were Sugarloaf, Solomon, and Hammerhorn (had a bit of class 3 scrambling). Chose class 2 route up from trail (north side) and kicked steps in final 10' or so of snow. Very remote and beautiful area.

So. Yolla Bolly
Uneventful dayhike from the standard TH. Views to N. were obscured by wildfire smoke near the Trinity Alps area.
Hiked on the left trail a little and then gained the ridge via a dry, rocky creekbed. There was still a small patch of snow near the summit. Followed the ridge directly back to the parking area.

Yup
Not sure on the year. It was either '03 or '02... but anyway, was out hiking for a few days and decided to quickly summit this peak as it was right next to the trail. Still had some snow on top too. Glad I went for it.
