Spruce Knob and a Via Ferrata
The day before, I climbed the Via Ferrata at Nelson Rocks and camped near Seneca Rocks, both AMAZING hikes. At Spruce Knob I hiked the Whispering Spruce Trail to the observation tower for incredible views.

Hardest part was the drive up
1/3 HP today. It was sunny and calm, but the road conditions were not good. Ice and 6-12" of snow going up the mountain.

HP #27!
Drove to the top right before a rainstorm hit. A lot of people hike it, but I was restricted for time trying to catch the eclipse in Nashville. Very green from the summit.

Well, just drove up, so not much of an accomplishment on this one. School field trip and others were there on this very nice day

3rd of the day, on this 4 peak HP trip. Great weather, and very pretty as the sun was starting to set. Too many people, however. That always puts a damper on things. Part of it when you can drive to the summit though, I suppose. Off to Roanoke, VA.

A little foggy and windy at the top but otherwise part #3 of an uneventful HP trifecta today. Roads bare and dry - no snow anywhere near the mountain. HP #5 for my Dad.

Memorable night sleeping under the stars on top of the Observation Tower.
Hiked in from Spring Ridge down to Seneca Creek and camped near the falls. Got up the next day and made the hard trek up to the ridge. Final climb was slow, but steady and eventually made it to the summit.

good road
I was surprised that they built such a nice long road all the way up. But, turns out that there were a number of other cars up there, even though it was a mid-week late afternoon.
Right after 9/11 I took a trip down to do the high point.

Larvitour Stop #3
I thought I was wimping out by driving up the Knob... until I had to swing my old sedan around those switchbacks. That summit road is not for the faint of heart! Up top, I walked the Whispering Spruce trail with a detour to the boulder field just south of it. Lots of fun boulders to climb there.
