Beatiful Sunset
Reached the observation tower just before sunset. Continued on around to the western side of the trail, and sat on the boulders to watch the sun go down.
The trail was very well kept. It was a bit breezy and cool (around 55°.)
This made the third high point of the day. We started on Mount Davis in PA, then hit Hoye Crest in MD, and finally this one.

US State Highpoint 2/50
Technically my first “highpointing” visit, but since I’d been to Mt. Davis in PA as a Boy Scout several times, I’m counting Spruce Knob as my second highpoint. I’ve returned several times since due to the uniqueness and beauty of the whole area.
Drove up. Third state highpoint for the day. Rain showers visible nearby.

Drive up
Walked with Ben during a college visit trip to NC & VA. Glad it worked out, and mostly enjoyed the long drive from Durham/Chapel Hill en route to Charlottesville.

HP #27
After a full day of rain the day prior, Monday broke bright and sunny. We made an early morning "summit" (drive-up) with gorgeous views across the national forest. Would be a great mid-fall summit.

HP# 7
Had a couple weeks off from work, decided to take a trip to the East from IL to hit a bunch of HPs. (HP 4 of 9 during this trip.) Cool winding road to top. Nice tower views. Hiking trails available. Took a while to find the USGS seal.

High Point #16
Beautiful drive up with amazing fall colors and gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains/hills. The short hike to the summit was pretty and there was even a little patch off snow just off of the trail! One of my favorite high points I've done so far!

Not a hike, but a fun place to visit anyway
The drive to Spruce Knob was way more taxing than the the little loop trail around the summit. The weather at the top was windy and misty....3 miles down the road it was warm and sunny...

Highpoint #12
Drove to the top and walked the 0.6 mile loop around the summit. Awesome views and saw a deer. Would have preferred to do a hike, but not many great options there. Was my third HP of the day after PA and MD.

Summit #10! Nice, familiar hike.
This was a really nice hike, cool and crisp, not too muddy, terrain reminds me of the Mt. Davis hike.
Read a number of posts on other sites about the turnoff for Huckleberry being hard to spot, and it was. Found it at 1.1 miles, built a small cairn at the start of the trail to make it easy for others to spot.

HP #23, Spruce Knob, WV
Completely dark when I arrived. The narrow winding switchback roads up and down were exciting because of the frozen snow/slush the directed the vehicle, similar to an automated car wash. The observation tower is a short walk from the parking lot but in the pitch black darkness it can seem long. The cloudless sky did not add any light, otherwise the snow covered ground would reflected a bit.
Even in the dark I found the USGS Marker quickly underneath the Northeast corner of the observation tower. The sun may have melted the snow off of the Marker.

Awesome wife Leah and I did a quick summit of Spruce Knob today on our way to summit Backbone in MD and Mount Davis in PA. Great weather for this time of year!

High Point #4
Watched the sunset from the west face of the mountain along the boulders. Absolutely stunning! Absolutely would recommend hitting this at sunset. It was a Saturday summer evening and it wasn't crowded. The high point marker is non-descript in the ground about 50 ft south of the tower. Caution: Not all sections of road are paved, some of the gravel portions have some serious potholes, small cars beware.
