Short hike up in fog
That WV mud sticks like crazy, went to my uncle's house afterwards and hosed off all I could while he was at work. When he got home he said, "That's awful dirty, you should use my hose and wash it off."

HP #2. First of the "Highpoint Trifecta" of West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Left from Virginia Beach at 6:00 am and didn't see one cloud all day!

Nice View
Drove up and walked the short path to the tower to enjoy the view. Nice change of pace between climbing Seneca Rocks and the Nelson Rocks Via Ferrata. Beautiful "Almost Heaven" country.

Spruce Knob
Drove to Spruce Knob from Seneca Rocks, WV on long, rough, curvy road to summit parking lot. Thunderstorms. Cold and windy at the top. Hiked around on the nearby trails and met some interesting people. HP #15 and our 9th HP of the week.

3rd state highoint in one day
Beautiful day. This was my ninth state high point and 3rd eastern state highpoint. Previous two done earlier the same day
Route Climbed: straight up through bush and all Date Climbed: Summer 1999
A night before, I drank too much, and in the morning I had a terrible hangover. I puked until noon.
My companions left for the Spruce Knob summit without me, and they walked on the road (you know, there is a road right to the summit).
Then something inside me told me I had to get moving to get better, so I stood up, picked up a bottle of water, and went on. I was about an hour behind my friends, so I decided to fuck the road and go straight up through woods, swamp, bush, rock, etc. Guess what... I was on the summit an hour before my friends got there!
I got it confirmed again: if you are sick, or confused, or in a bad mood, get your ass together and get moving, and everything will normalize.
Route Climbed: Uh, We walked from the car to the observation tower Date Climbed: April 21, 2001
Well, this was my second high point. West Virginia is very beautiful and if you catch it on a clear day it is very panoramic. I didn't, so my wife and I were treated to high winds and lots of fog. God is so creative in His creation.
Route Climbed: Post Seneca car ride Date Climbed: summer 80 or 81
I was the passenger and remember the drive up from the Germany Valley up the slopes through a beautiful if second growth white oak forest. Good views over east toward Nelson or Champe Rocks.
Route Climbed: The standard short walk from the car... Date Climbed: June 20, 2003
I'd been meaning to actually climb this one, but all available trails are quite long and there's this nice road right up to the summit. anyway, tack on another state highpoint. Lovely.
