Lakes trail
Did it from Guanella Pass on the Friday before Labor Day. Followed the trail to the lakes and went up from there. There was a crowd on Bierstadt, but we were just about the only ones on Square Top.
Good hike from Guanella Pass. From the trail turn off it gets steep...quick. Amazing views!

Windy
Great Day, except for the wind on the ridge. Had to put on Winter Gear. Took a different ridge down and escaped the wind. Great views in all directions as there were no clouds in the sky.

First Thirteener
Daniela and I spend the night at the TH and left for the summit the following day. Good weather. We reached all the three summits because we couldn't figure out which one was actually the true summit.
The weather improved on the way down. This was our first thirteener. Very happy of our achievement. 6:30 RT.
Left Guanella Pass around 6:15 with only 20 or so cars in the parking lots. By the time I looked back around 7:30 it was more like 300. Descending into the basin just off the parking lot there was a little frost on the ground...Nice. I had the mountain all to myself; encountering people coming up once I was 30 minutes off the summit. Got in a nice glasade too.
Biked from Arvada and camped below Guanella Pass on Friday. Biked up from my camp to the Pass on Saturday morning and summited Squaretop. Biked home on Sunday.

From Guanella Pass - Loop
Enjoyed this pleasant day on the tundra with Deb. Still plenty of snow up top. We made a fine loop of this outting. Fantastic weather. Ran into ErikaRN on the summit ridge!
By the time I got to Guanella Pass at 7:45 there were already hordes of cars parked, but nobody was on their way to Square Top. I had this beautiful mountain to myself and I didn't miss the extra 200 feet! I ascended the SE ridge and descended the class 2 talus of the NE ridge.

First Climbs
Together with Decatur (12,890 ft) and Argentine Peak (13,738), Square Top Mountain was one of the first peaks in Colorado I climbed. The date is just a guess - it was quite a long time ago. We camped at Shelf Lake, gained the ridge to the west, and then hiked the ridge to each of the high points.
Hiked up square top and argentine from Guanella pass - nice alternative to bierstadt and good views.

This makes for a great, relatively easy winter outing (well, at least it did before they stopped plowing Guanella Pass). Terribly windy and cold up high as usual.
