Destroy All Rock CairnsPlease people destroy all rock cairns you come across; not only are they extremely disturbing to most visitors but they are against the law 36 CFR 261 10(a) a $300.00 fine "Constructing, placing, or maintaining any kind of structure . . . on National Forest Service land . . . without special use authorization, contract, or approved operating plan. I ask why do you build rock cairns when they leave such a horrible trace that you have been there and are very disturbing to so many other users that come after you? Re: Destroy All Rock CairnsMany summit cairns have been around for over 100 years. I'm not destroying any of them. This summit cairn has been around longer than you or me. Many cairns are critical trail markers and their existence IS supported by the Forest Service or land owner. Occasionally, I'll come across small, unnecessary cairns and I'll kick those over - they're pointless and an eyesore.
