St. Helens' Crater (1981)

Blowing ash and steam rise out of the crater formed after the May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in southwestern Washington. The lava dome is clearly visible, IN this photo taken August 1981.

Great shot !!!

I have seen the crater of Mt. St. Helen's 21 years after its eruption so I enjoy your photo. Very interesting angle. Thanks, Henryk.

Please understand - was taken just
a little over (one) year after the
castastrophic eruption. I was in a
SAFE position, inside of a small plane.
A "touring plane," like the ones that
fly over the Grand Canyon. Thanks for
