cold front moving through
Started from the back country information map near the campground and it took about two hours to ascend the Lower Ridge Trail. Apart from two NOBO AT hikers I met near the windy summit I didn’t see anyone all day. Went over Frog Mtn on the way back, which was an unremarkable wooded summit.

Good day out!
Beautiful mid November day. Great views of northern GA; Brasstown Bald, Blood Mtn, and Tallulah Gorge. Climbed up from Standing Indian campground via Lower Ridge trail and descended the AT to Kimsey Creek.

AT NoBo out of Deep Gap
The short side trip to this summit is worth every step! Definitely a highlight of the day. Amazing views! It's a good tug up this mountain out of Deep Gap, but ample rewards at the top.

From Deep Gap
A nice gentle incline from Deep Gap. I agree with the previous poster - too many fire rings pockmark the summit area. Hopefully future campers will stick to existing sites to reduce impact.

AT Section Hike
Part of a section hike from Dick's Creek Gap, GA to Wallace Gap, NC. So I guess it took me 2 days and 18 miles to summit in a driving rain. 40 degrees, rain and 30 mph wind greeted me to NC.

2nd time up. A very beautiful mountain and wilderness, but the camping area near the top has been way overused.

bummer
Hiked 34 miles in 2 days up the AT to summit and it was raining. Kinda bummed me out. Also up last week, Oct 4 2007. It was raining, bummed again.
Huffed & puffed up to summit on the morning of 4/8/2006. Rained & stormed all night in tent city just below the mountain's shelter on the AT. Climbed w/ my friend Clay. We did the 25 mile loop from Kimsey Creek Trail to Long Branch Trail.
Route Climbed: AT southbound Date Climbed: April 2005
Stay at Carter's Gap. Do AT southbound and you can do a loop including Standing Indian. Views are great. Each day is about 13 miles with weight. Have fun.
