Dayhike  Sucess!

Really fun Halloween hike with awesome late season weather. We went for Stanislaus first and after that climb didn’t feel like dealing with the ridge line so we rode the trail back to the junction and headed for Sonora from there. My buddy was slowing but we were on top before we knew it. We enjoyed both peaks completely windless, and stayed on Sonora to watch the sunset. The alpenglow on all the granite to the south was amazing. We didn’t make Ritter or Tower this year but seeing them today was a reminder of what we have to look forward to! We put on headlamps and cruised down. I got lost in the sunset and realized I was looking at Mount Diablo, the clearest I’ve ever seen it from the Sierra. A hard day, but a really enjoyable hike.

Southeast Slope  Sucess!

One of those destinations you can have the entire place to yourself. The TH though could use a little love. The sign out on the north side of the highway indicating St Mary's TH is long gone. The two posts that held the sign are about to fall over. The once well-cared for sign where the trail begins is smashed to smithereens. But enough from Debbie Downer. Its a glorious area. As you make your way along the trail from St. Mary's Pass, you're worlds away. And once you overcome the challenges of the slope and top out on the summit, you'll love the views toward all points of the compass.

From Sonora Pk  Sucess!

The varied geology is beautiful as well as the view into the canyon. Enjoyed the short section of scrambling on an otherwise dull hike.

Scenic Summer Morning  Sucess!

I enjoyed this hike. I counted eight stream crossings on the way to Stanislaus, each one prettier than the last, with abundant wildflowers.

SW Face  Sucess!

Climbed the southwest slope of this fine peak. In reality, it's a bit misleading to call this a simple class 2 walk up. There are indeed class 2 lines, but ample opportunities on the west, east, even south faces to go for class 3 and 4 variations.

We climbed some class 3/4 stuff on the SW slope. Lots of super loose rock.

There are some good looking class 4 or 5 lines on the east face on decent rock.

Enjoy this peak. It's only a slog if you make it one!
