via the forest road off Mt Rose Hwy
Quickie before the Chevelle show. They are unfortunately bulldozing the access point off Fawn Lane and access from the west; looks like housing developments going in. So while active construction is going on, the Fawn Ln and western approaches are a no-go (or go during the weekend). Hopefully these will still be viable approach points once the houses are done. The NF road and the approach from the "G" are still good.

Meetup hike
Hiked with 10 people and three dogs on a beautiful spring evening.
We started from Fawn Lane, and distance was approximately 3.4 miles with 800 ft of elevation gain.
From Fawn Lane. A very convenient leg-stretcher for someone who just flew into Reno and is headed south.

AKA Maguire Benchmark
Took advantage of a beautiful sunny February day with temps in the low 60's. Started from the Brushwood Way trailhead, easy to get to from Mt. Rose Highway. Parked in the cul-de-sac. Easy hiking most of the way on the narrow dirt road. Short scramble approaching summit which is marked by a brass USDA benchmark from 1939 labelled "Maguire". There is also a large wooden cross at the south summit. Great views in all directions, Reno to the north, Virginia Range to the east, Washoe Valley to the south and Mount Rose to the west.

Not any snow
Dry conditions in the hills. Did a loop from the western trailhead down to northern trailhead.

Nice little adventure on a Sunday afternoon
Followed the directions from the page, turned up the jeep trail for the first hill and realized once I was on top that the hill wa not connected, down climbed to the road and bushwacked up the correct bank. Took the advise and wandered down to the other summit to check out the view. bushwacked down to the road and followed that out. Took about 45 minutes each way with a 15 minute walk from 1 summit to the next. Total time away from pavement was only 2 hours.
