The trail had a gopher snake and numerous lizards basking on it.

Sugarloaf
Went up to the lookout early in the morning. Did the Big Loop the day before and other hikes in the area. Cold weather made Chiricahua practically empty in December.

Sugarloaf
Climbed Sugarloaf with my kids while we were camping at Bonita Campground.
Good views out to Dos Cabezas. Some enormous wasps floating around.

Easy Hike
With all the people at the overlook, I expected more to come up to the summit considering how easy the trail was. Apparently, not many decided to take the 0.9 mile walk to the top. There was a bit of snow (up to 1' in places) which wasn't a problem on the trail. Weather was relatively warm and there was little to no snow on the sun-facing side. The view, however, wasn't too impressive considering that it was surrounded on many sides by higher mountains.

Sugarloaf Mountain Trail
I summited this mountain on a brilliant, sunny day while visiting Chiricahua National Monument. I especially enjoyed the combination of several inches of snow on the north side of the mountain and desert plants flourishing on the south side of the mountain. A quick, pleasant climb yielding knock-out views. Climbing partner: Husband.
