Great weather window this morning. Combined with: "West Turkshead Peak," Grand Turk, "Spencer Peak" and one I've been wanting for a good long while, Turkshead Peak.

From Little Molas Lake
With Ryan Draft. via W Turkshead, Spencer, and Grand Turk. Dropped off Sultan's NE shoulder [one tricky notch to negotiate] to Rt 550 close to Silverton, where passing motorists were definitely not interested in giving us a lift up the road. Heavy early afternoon rain made the prospect of walking 7 mi up the road somewhat unattractive. We ended up going into to Silverton and *paying* someone to drive us up to Molas pass. Still, a nice set of ridges.

aSULTAN the San Juan's
Started this hike around 11:30am. After not understanding the approach beta i just schwacked through willows after two or three switch backs on the Colorado Trail from Little Molas Lake. There was a route..ish. Spencer Peak was neat, the ridge down to Grand Turk was somewhat sketch with new, wind blown snow. Grand Turk is an easy jaunt from Spencer. Sultan proved to be the more tiresome of the three. Awesome summits with great views of the San Juan's. I then traversed back, under Grand Turk, over Spencer and then back into the Molas Creek drainage. 4.5 hrs round trip

Tour de Grand Turk & Sultan
We completed this tour of the massif with great weather, enjoying all that the San Juans have to offer with none of the crowds. Sultan is an amazingly symmetrical peak! Taking the steep, west slope down Sultan wasn't so much fun, but it was good that we were able to pick up a use trail in the basin around the west side if the massif. Unfortunately, we ended up doing a massive detour on the CT at the end.

Splendiferous
Great day, great views, great summit! Route was relatively snow free except for the areas shaded by trees and the ascent to the first saddle. Summited Sultan and hastily retreated to my vehicle just before the storms set in. I'm glad I summited at 0800 because I wouldn't want to be caught on this mountain in a storm.

Silverton Six Pack!
Climbed as part of a long loop from Little Molas that included six ranked summits: UN 12764 (aka "West Turkshead Peak"), Grand Turk, Sultan Mountain, Bear Mountain, UN 13042 & UN 12764. Also unranked, recently named Spencer Peak.
Did with the SP gathering. Great day did the 3 peaks.

Climbed with the SP Summer Gathering, also climbed Grand Turk, Spencer and PT 12849. Great weather, pretty rare to be so clear for so long on a July day in the San Juans! Nice meeting everyone on the climb!

What a day. The weather was divine. We spent about an hour on the summit of Sultan pigging out on trail food, taking photos, laughing, etc. Great friends, amazing hike. The wild flowers were just gonzo. Hiking partners: SP Colorado Summer Gathering.
PS: No one who likes rock 'n roll can possibly hike this mountain without words to Sultans of Swing over and over through their head.
A band is blowing Dixie double four time.
You feel alright when you hear that music ring.

First 13er and Colorado Peak
Took the wrong trail trying to get to Grand Turk and wound up climbing Sultan Mountain first. The views were amazing with only cirrus clouds accenting the light, cerulean blue sky.
