N Face Ski Descent
Bootpacked the N Ridge from the Redcloud-Sunshine saddle. Skied from the summit out onto the NW face. At 13300', turned onto the N face and skied through a narrow, deeply inset chute. Skied to 11300' where the snow ran out. Lugging 40lbs of gear makes even the smallest 14er a challenge.

Duo day extended....
Following poor weather the day before, we headed back up to summit Sunshine. We decided to climb Sundog on our way up- wow, LOTS of vertical fast on this hike! Things were a breeze once we came off of Sundog- we're glad we took an alternate route to yesterdays hike!

Twofer
Stayed in Silverton for some awesome fireworks on July 4, than off to knock off the twofer on the 5th. Trail was not just 4 wheel, but needed good clearance for some off-cambered areas.

After renting a Jeep due to family only having one car (my mom & dad justifiably wanted a rest day after doing Redcloud the day before), left Crystal Lodge @ 6.27, arriving at the trailhead at 6.58. Leaving the trailhead at 7.10, got to the drainage turnoff in half an hour. Following the ridge through the woods, summited “Sundog” at 9.36. Elevation drop to plateau below Sunshine (& subsequent regain) a real bitch. Summited Sunshine at 10.51, dark & menacing clouds directly overhead. Departed summit at 10.57. Hauling ass back down, reached river junction at 12.45, & the parking lot at 13.13. Despite the grueling talus- & scree-slogging, it was a great day, & cool to bag a 13er en route too.

Beautiful day, descended the scree from the saddle between Redcloud and Sunshine. This route follows a gorgeous drainage into the forest.

An absolute killer day! I never saw a soul…. it was like having the whole wilderness area to myself. Part of a 10 day 18 14,000 ft. summit solo climbing trip. Would go again.

Via Redclouds South Ridge
The distance between Redcloud and Sunshine is mellow and easy hiking. This areas reddish gold soil was very unique to what I'm used to seeing closer to Denver. This climb was great but my trip through Lake City was a real dissapointment...nothing to do there so I just hung at my camp and consumed beer :)

A delightfil, simple walk from Redcloud. I shared a cup of tea with one individual at the summit. Just the two of us for awhile then he left. I stayed for awhile.
