Finally! Failed to reach this summit 2x due to weather and equipment failure. This day I had absolutely perfect weather and my equipment held up so I had no excuse. Some of the best views in Co. #20

Number 20!
Started at 4:30am from the Silver Peak route. We were worried about weather becuase it started to rain at around sunrise. The weather then cleared and it became a gorgous day. We got to the summit of Redcloud at around 8:30am. Then we went and tagged Sunshine. We had planned on doing Sun Dog, but the weather began to roll in. We then hung out in the old moraine below Sunshine for about and hour and half. These two peaks were my first summits in the San Juans and 14'ers 19 and 20! BEAUTIFUL area! Cant wait to come back

Unmemorable
Hiked up to summit after "Sundog", then on to Redcloud, Points 13,832 and 13,811. Nice weather.
Summited with Redcloud. North Slopes route--loose and steep to the saddle. This being Sunshine, the summit was socked in with clouds. Go figure. There was an 80-year-old man near the summit.

Combo
Nice loop. Very straightforward on a good trail. Wonderful views.
Summited Sunshine after doing Redclound in 3:30 via the normal route. No problems. Uncompahgre/Wetterhorn the day before then Handies the following day.
We came over to Sunshine after climbing Redcloud. Again, I was the last of the group to make the top, I was pretty worn out after Uncompahgre, Handies, and Redcloud. The weather was good, though it was windy. We ate lunch, then went back over Redcloud and back to the trailhead. I slipped on some loose rocks and fell on my kiester on the way down. I scraped my arm a little bit, but nothing serious at all. We got back to the trailhead at around 1:30, packed up our stuff, and headed back to Denver. It was a long, hard weekend, but well worth it!

Redcloud - Sunshine - Sun Dog
Hiked the three from the Silver Creek Trailhead with my girlfriend Meghan. Awesome views of the San Juans. I first attempted Sunshine Peak in August of 2006 with my friend Keith but we got stormed off before reaching the summit.

Climbed with Redcloud via the North Slopes from Lake San Cristobal Road. An easy traverse from the summit of Redcloud lasting only an hour. The last several hundred feet to the summit were the most exhausting but the view was well worth it. After enjoying a snack on the summit we headed back over Redcloud and back to the trailhead to rest up for tommorrow's next hike.

marmotvilleOn a group hike I guided, the marmots were everywhere and ready to eat our lunches if we stepped away or turned our backs. Cheeky little buggers!
