Local Ranch dog hiked with us
Kind of muddy at this time of year, but a local ranch dog decided to hike all the way up and down the mountain with our group so that was fun.

Took the Scrambles book. Printed out a map from CalTopo. Took the trail. Still got lost, briefly. Nobody else here, except a motorized mountain biker (should he have been here?). Took the ridge down.

Cows!
Me and my Dad braved the herd of water buffalo (cows) to reach the summit (edge of a mound). Those cows are big, let me tell you.

Sutton Mountain
With Lunadog. Not sure why this one is in the Oregon scrambles book unless you do it from the south. Her book describes a walk-up through a cow pasture. The meadow is full of ticks and cow patties, beware. The only thing scrambly about it was us trying to avoid the pissed off cows who gathered en masse and pushed us off to the east. It might have had more to do with the herd being protective of their calves but they seemed to know we were not cattle-savy. The flowering hedgehog cactus were really cool though. Couldn't tell which grassy bump was the true summit so we hit the one on the right first, then the left where the cairn and USGS marker are. No summit register that we found. BEWARE THE COWS!
Think we hiked up this one after the OR Scrambles book came out. Good time was had by all esp. the dog :)

Sutton Mountain
I followed the old road up a ridge south of the mountain and scrambled up the basalt columns on the west face of the Mountain. I returned via the east ridge. Still a few wildflowers in bloom, and nearly no clouds in the sky. Went on to visit the painted hills after this mellow hike.
