Route Climbed: South Ridge Trail Date Climbed: Jan 16, 2005  Sucess!

Started up the trail at 10:00am and reached the top about 1:20pm. Crisp and cool hike with very little snow on the trail. Uper sections of the switchbacks were icy in spots. We had the lookout to ourselves on a beautiful clear day. Views to the ocean and out 100 miles. Cold NE winds made standing on the north side of the firetower tough but the SW and lee sides of the tower were warm and sunny. Made it back to the truck in less than 2 hours.

Route Climbed: Devils slide trail Date Climbed: 1973 -->  Sucess!

First mountain I climbed at 5 years of age. I grew up in PineCove, and ran around like a wild monkey in these mountains for 13 years.

Route Climbed: South ridge trail Date Climbed: December, 11 2005  Sucess!

A nice cool day in December. Started at 10:20am. Hit the top at 12:30. The leg was weak but it made it. Very clear day (this would be a fab place to watch a sunrise) You can clearly see Josh, esp Ryan Mt. The Sultan Sea, the peaks east of San Diego. To the west you can see the Ocean, The LA downtown, Mt Wilson and way way out by my house, Santa Paula Peak. That is more than 100 miles! This is a pretty good hike.

Took a hike with my wife and some friends. Not even a hint of snow (I heard that the trail was covered a year ago).

Route Climbed: Devils Slide Trail Date Climbed: October 21, 2005  Sucess!

Started at the trailhead around 8;30, and was back at the bottom by 1:30. The views from the top were great, but the majority of this hike was pretty boring, especially along the first 2 miles of the trail. The brush gets too high in places and your views are obscured.

Route Climbed: North Face Decent route to ridge to summit Date Climbed: 2000 or 2001  Sucess!

Very fun hike/scramble up north face decent route to the ridge. I attempted to stay strictly on the ridge all the way to the summit but hit some 5th class sections so I skirted them to the right and continued up to the fire lookout tower. Fun hike up, but came down the South Ridge/Ernie Maxwell trail that got hot and boring so I cut cross country about half way down and headed in the direction of Lily Rock and shortened my trip back to the parking lot. Next time I'll retrace my way back down along the ridge and down the NF decent route.

Route Climbed: Devil's Slide Date Climbed: July 14, 2005  Sucess!

This was my fourth time here, so to make things a little different I decided to take the Devil's Slide Trail instead of the South Ridge Trail like I had on my previous three ascents. There were a few dark clouds in the sky this day, but no rain.

Route Climbed: Devils Slide Date Climbed: The Early 80's  Sucess!

Dayhike on a cold day in the fall. We saw a pair of hawks mating, awesome sight, clasping talons together spiraling straight down thousands of feet and parting just over the trees only to rise and do it again!

Route Climbed: Devil's Slide Date Climbed: March 2004

Headed up the trail on a whim while a friend I was visiting was at work. Was turned back by a couple feet of snow at saddle junction. Contemplated post-holing to the summit, but that didn't last long.

Nice view from the lookout tower. We were alone at first but as we left about 15 people arrived from various directions. Camped in Tahquitz Valley for a couple days. Most streams have good water flow, but a few were dry. Photos here

Route Climbed: Ernie Maxwell Trail Date Climbed: December 2003

I took my pet human and her friends out for a stroll along the Ernie Maxwell trail...There was a bit too much snow and ice on the Devil Slide trail and even though I have great four wheel drive capabilities the humans were ill equipped to keep up.

Route Climbed: Devil Slide / Tahquitz Peak Date Climbed: 26 December 2003  Sucess!

The snow on all the trees and rocks made for some interesting pictures. Above 8000 feet, I was inside a cloud, and at the summit, visibility was about 100 feet. I'll have to go back some time when the sky is clear, so that I can see the view from the top.
