Talus Mountain (Point 10,695)

Talus Mountain (Point 10,695)

A view of the south aspect of the peak from an airy outcrop above Bomber Basin. The route up the south ridge begins as a talus walk and then becomes a rock-hop. As you get higher, the boulders get larger, and the ascent becomes a fun Class 3 scramble. With care and patience, you can probably keep it at Class 2/2+, but in my opinion it's easier (and more enjoyable) to just tackle the ridgeline directly and take what comes. There are even many chances to practice short Class 4 and "easy" Class 5 moves if you want to, and exposure is almost never an issue. Wind River Range, WY-- June 2009
