The date is a guess, probably 1959-1961. Dad and his office mates and their sons camped at Three Creeks Lake for a few nights, and we hiked up to the Rim on one of the days.
Had a fun day of spring skiing off of Tam Rim. 5 inches of snow fell a few days before so the conditions were stellar for June! A fun and very accesible spring ski objective.

Tam McArthur
This was a nice, short day with great views (when cloud cover permitted). There are a couple of nice glissades too.
Great hike with my wife and mother-in-law. Kept on heading towards the Hand for great views north to Hood.

Tam McArthur Rim
Tam McArthur Rim is quite popular as I saw many people on the trail. Met a group from the local hiking club who had carried sleds with them. They were sliding down a large snowfield up there in September which was pretty neat. Had lunch on the cliff the overlooks the lake. Then we continued toward the Broken Hand. My favorite view from here was of Broken Top and the Three Sisters.

Tam McArthur Rim
With Mike. age 4. Rambled around the top. Mike chose to run all the way back to the trailhead. Greeted me with his feet up and drinking a Coke at the campground. Large flock of Canada Geese flew over while we were on top. Have been there more than once.

The nice thing about living in Sisters
You can squeeze in hikes to nearby highpoints like this after work. I watched a couple people paraglide off the rim, that looks like a fun hobby!

Great hike! Views weren't as good because of a lot of haze, but the Three Sisters were still visible with Broken Top, Ball Butte, Bachelor, and Tumalo Mountains.
Route Climbed: Tam McArthur Trail Date Climbed: July 1, 2005
We hiked half of the trail as a family, stopping in a meadow before turning back. Once everyone was back at the lake, I ran the route (it is a good run) in about 30 minutes from the trailhead to the highest viewpoint (23 minutes down). It is wonderful up on the Rim and I look forward to next Summer when my kid will be able to do the whole thing with me.
I climbed it again (as a run) from the Three Creek Lake campground. It is a killer run, great family climb/hike and would be an amazing snowshoe route in the winter. This is a great all-around location for families that want to get out of Portland!

This was not a "climb" per se nor a hike. I actually used the route as a training run and tried to make it from my camp (at the lake) to the high point on the Rim as fast as I could. I managed 28 minutes to the top. It is not really a fast time, but it must be about 3.5 miles (from my particular camp site) but it is hard to tell as I don't usually run at 7,000 feet. If you do the Rim as a hike, plan to take water (it is dry up there) and make a day out of it. The views are amazing.
