Hot and sticky
Hiked the Mina Sauk Falls trail on a 95 degree Labor Day Weekend. Falls were dry, as was everything else in Mark Twain Nat.Forest.

Longest Walk of my trip!
Well, at least I had to walk about 150 yds to get to the summit. Ohio and Indiana were even less. I could have created a hike on Taum Sauk but was on my way to see my new granddaughter and didn't have the time. Maybe when I return to Missouri.

State HP #5
After a grueling climb of Mount Sunflower the prior day, my wife and I summoned up the fortitude to drive up this mountain also.
Summited the spring of 2014. Very nice, but the waterfalls were all dried up. Take the 3 mile loop if you want to get a good hike in. It's always a little disappointing that the peak marker is right at the parking lot.

Alone on the summit, nice and peaceful!

Fun area
Really enjoyed the St. Francois mountains. We hiked the Mina Sauk trail (falls dry but still fun), visited Jakk's Glade, hiked the Scour Trail, and camped in Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park. The walk-in camping is highly recommended! #38 for me, #25 for Lillian, #9 for John, and #8 for Barb.

Not much too it but a fun drive though the Ozarks on the way there.

Nice Mina Sauk Falls Loop
The trail to the high point is well developed and unremarkable, but the Mina Sauk Falls loop was scenic and well worth the time to take.

If anyone "attempts" this and doesn't get to click the "Were you successful?" button it is a sad day for that person.
Great drive through the Ozarks to a relatively uneventful hike. We explored the Elephant Rocks State park not to far and had a lot more fun there. I'm guessing hiking down to the falls would make this a little more fun. Very pretty area. One of us did end up with a tick though....

Highpoint #12 - HOT, HOT, HOT!
Took a short detour en route to a business meeting. Beautiful drive up to the mountain, dogwoods blooming and only a couple cars in the parking lot. Got there too late in the day to take a trip to the falls. Should do that next time I am in the area. Was not prepared for it to be 92 degrees - YIKES!
A short day trip while working in southern Illinois.

Night Time Highpointing
Running late on a stressful, long drive meant arriving at Taum Sauk after dark. Creepy sounds as we hiked in to the highpoint.

Taum Sauk at night!
State HP #33......and our first one at night! We finally made it there, after a long weekend of driving through MS, LA, AR, and MO. Relatively uneventful, except for the fact that we were upset that we missed the daylight. Oh well, it still counts. Besides, it wasn't much to look at anyways, compared to some of our prior missions.

Did this highpoint while doing a family vacation to St. Louis. The hike to Mina Sauk Falls was enjoyable and just the right length for smaller kids to do without having to carry them the whole way.

Perfect day for it!
Could not have asked for better weather. A little cloudy which kept the temp below 75. I hiked to the waterfall as well. Hardly a soul on the roads to get here, but there were several folks hiking to the falls...in spite of that, I still had long sections of the trail in solitude. Worth hiking to the falls when they are running!

very hot!
A ridiculously hot day in Missouri - 110 degrees by the thermometer in the car... I decided to actually do some hiking at Taum Sauk. Made the walk to the summit (easy), took some obligatory pictures, and then decided to go find some other trails to hike.
Very rocky trails there. I took 3 bottles of water with me, and once the first one was done, I decided to turn back, wanting to make sure that I had reserves just in case. Hiked for about 2 hours there... very little water at the falls, as it was very dry and hot.

If only they were all so easy... just kidding of course, the challenges of the others make them so much fun. If you have a chance go check out Mina Sauk Falls. If you go in August expect it to be all dry. The rocks where by the typical falls site are stunning and afford a great view even when there's no water.
