From Sand Beach
I was joined by a lady who had never hiked a mountain before. The shortness of this hike allowed me to give lots of encouragement. She was breathless with the view, the exposure, and the exertion. I think I enjoyed her reaction to the summit more than my own.

Swarms of Fun
Did this after the one south of it (blanking on the name now) and before Cadillac on a fun 12 mile day with Flanders. Fun one.

Fun hike
Part of a multiple summit, 12 mile day in Acadia. Views are nice; even on a grey, cloudy day.

Great short hike!
Went on a family vacation to Bar Harbor in 2006, and had an incredible time. Decided to hike the Beehive, not realizing the exposure at the time. It didn't help that my wife and her sister, mother, and father are all afraid of heights. Wife was plastered to a slab of granite for over 10 minutes trying to summon the courage to take the next step. For them, it was a harrowing adventure where we were lucky to escape with our lives. For me, a nice hill to climb.
An excellent trail for getting people to extend their comfort zone. I've taken friends on the Beehive that'd be freaked out by class 3 terrain, but had no problem with exposure on the Beehive because they gained extra confidence knowing their hand and footholds were man made.

Kids like this hike.
My boys (16 and 9) can get bored with long slogs but they both lit up when introduced to scrambling up 'iron rung' trails. This was the first and bought me many more days of willing hiking with them, insistant on doing all the 'iron rung' trails in the park.

Ocean-Gorham-Beehive Loop
From Sand Beach, Jen, Scott, Lauren, and I hiked the Ocean Path to the Gorham Mountain trail head. Easy hike up and over Gorham to the junction with the trail to The Bowl, where Jen and Lauren headed back to the beach. Scott and I hiked up to the bowl, where I saw a beaver hanging out. Hiked over to the Beehive from there and down the ladder route. Excellent views along the whole hike. Next time I would rather go UP the ladder route though!

Very interesting route--not for those who dislike exposure. There are some environmental issues with the metal that's been hammered into the rock, but it's a fun route. Great views of Cadillac and Champlain.
