The Confluence

This is the confluence of the the North and Middle Forks of the American River near Auburn, California. The Confluence as it is known by, is in the Auburn State Rec Area along Highway 49. There are numerous trail in the area open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Just up-stream on the middle fork is the Marshall Gold Discovery park where gold was discovered in 1848 sparking the great Gold Rush. I took this photo on April 5th, 2006.
