The Crest south of South...

The Crest south of South Sandia Peak. Large granite monoliths
pierce the mountain side like their counterparts near Sandia
Peak 15 miles to the north. Gigantic rockslides from the crest left
piles of granite boulders the size of houses (at the bottom of the
photo), which provide excellent shelter for wildlife. Closer to the
trailhead, outside the wilderness area, these rockpiles provide
great opportunities for rockclimbing and bouldering.
