Looking at the images brought back some good memories. The first time I tried it, in 1966, I started at Flattop and got to Stoneman Pass before getting stormed off.
I've been pondering this trip, but from the Wild Basin side, found your trip report. Is there anything that would make this trickier to do in the reverse direction from Sandbeach lake?
Well, Chiefshead from Sandbeach would be technically about the same as from Glacier Gorge, but is a few miles further each way. I don't think the traverse is feasible from Sandbeach without someone to pick you up at Bear Lake.
