FYI... A forest closure order has been issued to close the perpendicular south face of Hermit Rock from the Horseshoe Traverse route then east to the East Slab route. This closure will be from July 4 through August 30, 2006 to allow Perigrine Falcons to raise their young.
A select guidebook for the area (Sorcerer, Witch, Voodoo, Deomon, Charlatan) can be found in "California Road Trip - a climber's guide to Northern California" by Slater and Summit. Available at Maximuspress.com. Over 100 crags north of the Kern River. Will get you through many Needles classics and enough climbing for a week.
