the red-brown band on NE face
View WNW to the "red-brown band" route on the NE face. This photo was taken at ~12700', on the ridge ("moraine") between the N and S lobes of the Middle Palisade Glacier. The blue dots show the route. One encounters a gully full of steep snow (hidden from view) in crossing over to the bottom of the red-brown band. There are many different interpretations of "the NE face route" -- this is the route N of the gendarme.
"From the top of the central glacial morraine, follow the obvious reddish rocks diagonally up and over to the main chute on the right." From Bob Burd's description of the alternate start to the NE face.
This photo is intended to be useful, not pretty. The instructions for this stretch tend to be confusing.
