Re: What a NiceThanks :)
There is not water in that little pocket too often, but when there is it makes the photos a little nicer I think. :)

Like itNice composition. I think I'll have to sneak in there sometime; there's no way I'm dealing with that crazy permit system they have!

Re: Like itI live here so it's easy, but it would be a pain if you live far away. All I do is the day before show up at the BLM office in the morning and get a permit for the next day. I have never had any problems. But! -- the best places in Coyote Buttes do not need permits... like White Pocket. And permits for South Coyote Buttes are easy to get even online and I think it's prettier out there. It's far more fragile however and these place do need a 4WD to drive through the VERY deep sand out there. Someone fit like you can do Buckskin in a day and you just park and get your permit right there in the parking lot. It's not as awful as it's made to sound.

Re: to sneak in thereI'd love to explore some more from alternate access points too ... but keep in mind that they check the permits at the Wave location too (not just in the parking lot). The ranger didn't really check the details in ours but we had to wave this piece of paper ... lucklily its color was right :/

Re: to sneak in thereIt's not sneaking.. you simply don't need a permit (yet!) to go to places like White Pocket, Steamboat Rock, Cobra Arch... I assume because they get few visitors -- few know of them. Check out this page. You do need a permit for the Wave, Paw Hole and Cottonwood Teepees. I have never been to a place that they are so fanatic about checking things. We forgot to put ours in our window once and had a note from the ranger about how he had to strain his neck to see it between the seats - was for South Coyote Buttes.

Re: few know of themI like your page very much, Tanya, but one has to admit that the Wave, puny as it is, does have a special photogenic appeal. But speaking of places unknown ... do you know anything about Wolf Knoll, kind of in the same area as the other Eastern Coyotes locations you mention?
