Re: This area is stunningIts an aoelian sandstone. Aoelian= desert. Most desert sandstones are results of petrified dunes. All the rock you see in the picture used to be sanddunes that just got eroded out in different shapes. The wind direction before the dune was petriefied would have switched a few times. The lines are a result of wind directions and the reason they are so erratic is the fact that the changing wind formed different sets of line going different directions. Maybe that makes sense

Mother nature and the musicians did all the work... I'm just an admirer of both!
Cheers.

Re: Just the right amountOhhh... so, I'm Canadian - therefore, I automatically am a Rush fan? hehe... seriously, I grew up on Rush. Some of their stuff hasn't aged so well, but I still love them. Thanks for the compliments on the pictures... hope you make it up to Canada someday!

Re: Right on ...I was communicating (thru cyberspace) with a fellow who said he grew up in Ontario. When I asked him politely about Neil Young, he replied, "Who's that???" Nobody's perfect!

Re: slideThank you! It was a very beautiful place to be. I'm not sure how these formations were created. It looks as though there were these very deformed strata that got eroded down to a certain level and then that new rock was formed on top of that after. But how these layers got so twisted in the first place... I dunno! :)

What's In A NameIt seems that Jim and I are attracted to places with names like "Paraiah Canyon" and "River of no return". They seem to have to most unusual formations etc. This shot is amazing!

Re: What's In A NameThey are pretty surreal places to be in aren't they? I understand the attraction there! I've really got to get myself down to those parts again... Thanks on the compliment, take care!
