One of my favorite hikes
The hike was beautiful and not too dificult. About an 8 mile round trip. THe trailhead to the summit was a little difficult to identfy. Thank goodness for GPS.

Climbed via Dawson Saddle
Beautiful part of the San Gabriel mountains, with great views in all directions -- east to Baden Powell, southeast to Baldy, south to Hawkins, southwest to Islip, Waterman, Twins Peak, and Wilson, northwest to to Williamson, and north to Mojave Desert and mountains in the distant haze. The views of Baldy were especially spectacular.

9 Peak Day
Heather and I parked below Windy Gap at 7am and then hiked up Baden-Powell, Burnham, Throop, Hawkins, Middle Hawkins, and Islip. We got back to the car at 2pm and then drove around hiking up Akawie, Winston, and Lewis. The next day we did both summits of Twin Peaks as well as Waterman.

Throop Peak
I can't begin to explain how gorgeous this hike was this crisp December evening. The clouds moved like waves through the mountains, the air was brisk (high 30's to low 40's), there was no snow on the ground, the trail was nicely maintained, and the sunset was one to remember.

Blown away
Strong Santa Ana conditions in SoCal today. Winds sustained at 25-30 mph up high, gusts above 50. Still, enjoyable hike via Dawson Saddle, up and down in 1 hr, 45 mins. Huffed up Mount Lewis across the way afterwards, 25 mins round trip.

Birthday hike!
My wife Shinta's birthday was the 3rd, but we had other obligations, so had to do the hike on the 4th. Nice weather mostly, but got cold and windy near the summit. Very nice afternoon jaunt!

from Dawson saddle, very easy
the easiest hike ever, however done during a major snowstorm, it is as far as I remember the only hike when I haven't met anyone at all!
This is also my first successful hike.

TrailClimbed along with Baden-Powell. The nuns never did reach the summit. Oh well, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes in one of those black robes.
