Tibetan Snowcock in Island Peak High Camp

Tibetan Snowcock in Island Peak High Camp

We had just called it a day and were preparing lovely ramen soup (yet again!) when these two showed up and brought their friends with them to beg for samples. I think they are some pheasant species - indeed, they are Tibetan Snowcock (Tetraogallus tibetanus). October 2005

Tibetan Snowcock

Looks to be a Tibetan Snowcock, which is a member of the pheasant family.

Hello Nelson,

Thank you for your vote and clearing that up!

Also, my apologies for not putting up pages for Nepali peaks yet as I had promised you earlier. I still hope to get around to doing this.

Re: Tibetan Snowcock

I looked the bird up in my copy of Birds of Nepal since I wasn't sure. I just checked my journal and I saw these birds at Pangpema out by Kangchenjunga, but I didn't get a good photo like this. Thanks for posting.

No worries about the peak pages, I've been sitting on a route and two peaks for many months now, and have not been inspired enough to get to work on them. One of these days ...

Re: Tibetan Snowcock

They came really close - the picture was taken from inside our tent.
