Started at 2am for a beautiful sunrise at the saddle. Very crowded, great conditions. Parking ticket waiting for me when I got back.

Midnight Hike
Left at midnight with a lot of other hikers. There were probably 50 people on the summit when the sun came up. It was very pretty. Thanks Timp!

Veterans Day 09
My buddy and I made it up today. The climbers log on the summit indicates that no one has been up there for 5 days. Didn't use an ice axe or crampons, though both would have been helpful--lots of snow and ice on the trail above 9000 feet.

2nd time up Timpanooke trail
I've been up both Aspen Grove and Timpanooke but I have to admit I like this trail the best. Both have positive aspects but maybe it is the less traffic aspect. MikerHiker and I went up this one today and we had perfect weather. While it took us close to 5 hours to summit, actual moving time was 4 hours. Both of us like to take pics so we often stopped to snap off shots and this changes the time spent actually hiking. Thanks to Mike for being a great companion, we had a fun day. The views from the top were just outstanding. Lots of people for a tuesday as well as the two big moose we saw and the twenty something goats. All this, just a few miles from Provo.
Summitted in a little less than four hours. Lots of ice on the trails, but mixed conditions. Mostly ice up higher, but still lots of patches of rock. I brought MSR snow shoes and used them for traction, but wish that I would have brought crampons (probably steel, due to the mixed conditions) instead. What would have been perfect is those springy "crampons" they sell for shoveling your driveway.
1-2 feet of somewhat packed snow up higher. Had a nice hard sun/wind crust in the early morning, but softened up later.
Leaves have mostly changed/fallen off. It looks like I missed the beautiful fall colors by about a week. Some nice yellow aspen leaves down low, but everything was brown or gone higher up.
Ran into a surprising number of people. I didn't expect there to be so many this time of year. No one else who summitted had crampons, snow shoes, or ice ax, but there were frozen crampon tracks in the snow.
that's your main problem - weekends are a killer anymore, and especially holiday weekends! If you hike it on a Tuesday or something - you will see only a handful of people up there.
