"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

2nd AscentA late start put me on the mountain with about two hours of headlamp time on the way down. Just as steep as I remembered it!

Cold, snowy ascentMy wife Penelope and I hiked the peak from Racetrack Road on freshly fallen snow (3-4 inches) on April 01, 2016. The hike is reasonable by desert standards, much better than Dry mountain.
Wonderful views of Sierra Crest and the Racetrack from near the summit.

BriskI enjoyed the steep ascent and far reaching views. Storm clouds rolled over the Sierra and then the Inyos as I sumitted and started down. The accompanying wind made for a chilly end to a major winter heatwave. Sandstorms in northern DV discouraged me from sticking around the general area another day to tag Dry Mtn. I headed south to Furnace Creek area to take in the superbloom, experiencing rare desert rain overnight.

West RouteNice ridge route! Climbed with Heather. We did Dry the day before and Ubehebe the day after. This was my 21st peak on DPS list.

With 2+ feet of snowFresh after a major storm, was interesting experience to say the least. Dayhike with Deb.
The landscape was surreal and winter-blasted and the trees looked like art sculptures, completely frozen white with the rare winter like conditions on these peaks.

Up the north ridgeI went up the north ridge instead of the south ridge mostly by accident. There is a lot of crappy class 3 or worse rock up higher with lots of loose debris. I came down the "correct" ridge on the return. Some lingering snow in the shaded areas.

DV Post-holing!Daria and I ascended mainly the "trade route" but took an interesting traverse across the north side. We thoroughly enjoyed post-holing knee-deep most of the way to summit. Clouds too low to see much.. thanks a lot DV!

On way to UbehebeI just woke up and walked a bit NE from my tent site. I took a non-standard way straight up the west "face" and came down by the dps route (more-or-less). Back down by noon.

Short but niceA short but enjoyable walk up from Racetrack Road, enjoyed the route for the exercise. Excellent views of the valley.
