A good day in the North Cascades
We hoped for the summit... I did it with my son about 13 years ago in the summer. Should have got an earlier start...duh... 18 degrees, sunny skies. We would be satisfied with good views from as high as we could get. We made it past the Yellow Aster Butte turn off, down to the frozen lakes, up the ridge and down the last 200 foot drop to pass before the last grind... and that was as far as we would get. Cold and days are short, so we met the turn around time. We enjoy every minute and views. Lots of people up to Yellow Aster Butte. Very hard ice on parts of the trail...some people worn Yaks.
