Snow Hike with the (Adult) Kids
Four days after the first real snowfall of the season we saw drifts in the trail above timberline up to mid-shin deep mostly along the north side of the ridge. Otherwise it was a beautiful day after Thanksgiving to be out with the kiddos.

Via BaldyMountain
My crew was fortunate enough to bag this peak during our Rayado trek while at Philmont. We summitted Baldy Mountain before sunrise and then took the north ridge straight to the summit. Navigating the ridge proved challenging at times. There was a unofficial trail that guided us a little bit of the way from the large meadow just south of Baldy Mountain. The scree fields and the long ascent was pretty brutal. The summit approach from the North was amazing though. Lots of exposure way up high. Beware of one false summit if approaching from this side. Though I think the land is owned by Philmont so it is off limits. We ended up getting caught in a nasty rain storm on the way down. We bushwhacked through the dense forest on the east side of the mountain for a couple of hours until we intersected with a trail to Baldy Town. Then we stocked up on food and made our way to Miranda. It was by far the toughest day hiking in my life.

Via Green Mountain
An excellent mountain. Stellar views. Hiked over with Sarah from Green Mountain. Kinda surprised to find a trail from the saddle.

From Green Mountain
Kiefer and I bushwhacked down the slopes of Green Mountain then picked up the trail to the top of TMN. Outstanding views from this summit! And aspen were turning!!! Blustery on the summit.

Touch-Me-Not from Willow Creek
Direct winter ascent of Touch-Me-Not Mountain from Willow Creek crossing south of Virginia City. 1'-2' of snow above 9,500' all the way to the treeline. 6 hours/6.5 miles round trip, 3,600' elevation gain. Good weather, great views.

Thunderstorms
Tried to do the Baldy and TMN combo, but thick hail and cold winds stopped me about a quarter of the way up the saddle from Baldy. It was a good thing I turned around cause all hell broke loose once I got down to Baldy Town. TMN is still on my tick list

Standard Route + 1/3 of the way to Baldy
Odd spring conditions with rain most of the early morning turning to thunderstorms shortly before noon. Bushwacked the ridge north toward Baldy until I ran into a bedded elk. I think she was as suprised to see me as I was to see her.

Standard route with wrong Turn
Beautiful hike in october with changing aspens. We stayed on the mining road that skirts Green Mountain for to long and bushwacked for a good 30 minutes until we finally came upon the trail. The summit was nice but very cold and windy. On the way back we noticed that a large tree had fallen hiding the trail that goes left off the mining road.

Tough Conditions
Planned to travers the ridge to baldy but got stopped by 300 foot visibility and 40 mph winds. After summitting TMN we did not care to expose ourselves for a few more hours. At least it wasn't thunder and lightning. 1 1/2 hours up and 45 minutes down.

Touch Me Not from base
My wife and I climed touch me not from Eagle Nest. It took a full day but it was absolutely delightful. The views of the Moreno Valley, the Valle Vidal, Baldy, The Wheeler massif, and Philmont are stunning (you can even see Tooth Ridge!). I highly recommend this mountain especially for current and ex-Philmont staff. I truley believe it offers one of the most unique perspectives of the Ranch available.

Nice to Return (Sort of!)
Two weeks earlier my son, Curtis, and I had been on a 95-mile trek on Philmont, which included summiting nearby Baldy Mountain. This time we were back with several members of our Venturing Crew and we decided to hike to the top of Touch-Me-Not. Spectacular view, though fires in Arizona were reducing visibility (especially as compared to two weeks earlier). Hike took about a half day from the parking lot on the nearby access road (at about 10,500 feet). Lot easier than the hike to 12,441 foot Baldy, which started well below 7,000 feet!
