"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

From Lake Helen of TroyThe crux of the route was getting around the lake. Once past that loose and unstable traverse it was easy going to the summit.

From Williamson BowlClimbed with Boisedoc from our basecamp in Williamson Bowl. Getting around Lake Helen of Troy was tedious both coming and going. Fantastic views from the summit. Trip Report

williamson bowlafter getting Tyndall and Williamson on prior days, we headed over to climb Trojan. The main issue is getting around Lake Helen of Troy- lots of loose rocks on the east side (the west side of the lake looked impassable). Once around the lake, it is essentially a walk up but I think the footing is better than Barnard. Small amount of scrambling at the summit.

From Williamson BowlGreat 4 day solo trip covering Will, Barnard, Trojan, and Tyndall. Camped in Williamson Bowl all three nights. On day 3 went over to Barnard and grabbed Trojan on the way back. View from the top is super- made up for the tedious slog around Helen of Troy.

Trojan via North SlopeWe climbed Mt. Williamson in the morning and Trojan Peak in the afternoon. Lots of snow if I remember correctly but great conditions for kicking steps up the slope.

N Ridge (ascent)/NW slope (descent)Missed doing Trojan when we climbed Barnard 3 weeks ago via George Creek. Approach for this trip was over Shepherd Pass and through the Williamson Bowl (ugh). Climbed to the notch from Helen of Troy Lake and then up some fun Class 3 cliffs about half way up the North Ridge. The climb then turned into typical Class 2 bouldering to the summit. Descended via the NW slope -- a miserable scree slope that would have been hell to ascend. Incredible weather -- snow is almost gone.

Route Climbed: North CouloirI climbed this nice peak while on a day excursion up George Creek with Bob Burd, Rick Kent, and Michael Graup. I had intended on climbing the NE Couloir and descending the N Couloir, but the sound of snow slides in the NE couloir made me reconsider these plans and hike around to more stable snow.
Funny thing - my asthma began bothering me so badly from the plants in bloom in George Creek that I never noticed the altitude!

From the saddle of Mt.WilliamsonMiguel Carmona and I skied up and down George Creek to Mt.Williamson in February 1985 and on our day off climbed Trojan Peak from the saddle between it and Mt. Williamson. The ski descent from the summit of Mt.Williamson must be one of the greatest ski runs in California, about 10,000 feet drop.

Route Climbed: South Slope via Snow Date Climbed: May 7, 2006SPS trip led by Larry/Barbee and Patty. We were joined by Harry L., Susan L., Dave G., Darrick D. Hard bushwack up George Creek. Nice camp at 9,200' dry ground with snow all around. Started on snowshoes and then dropped them and switched to ice axe and crampons and then just boots to summit! So Fun!

South SlopeWith Larry, Barbee, Darrick, David, Patty and Susan from camp along George Creek. Met Michael and saw Mark approaching the peak as I ran off to join Patty, Susan, and David to climb Barnard.
Beautiful day! Fine views of Williamson, and tons of snow to the west. I placed a register and container on the peak.

Route Climbed: Endless sand slopes Date Climbed: Same as BobThe first sand slog of the 2004 climbing season. Nice views, but like most of the peaks in this area this year, no register.
Dayhike with Bob and Michael. A misunderstanding of plans led me to pass up Barnard, which I regret now. That'll have to be a long dayhike some other time.
